Mao Zedong, also known as Chairman Mao, was a Chinese communist revolutionary who became the founding father of the People's Republic of China, which he ruled as the Chairman of the Communist Party of China from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976. Born on December 26, 1893, in Hunan Province, Mao led the Communist Party of China to victory in the Chinese Civil War, defeating the Nationalist Kuomintang government in 1949. His leadership policies, such as the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, had profound and controversial impacts on Chinese society, politics, and culture.
